What is a Breast Lift?
Many women mistakenly assume breast augmentations will change the position of the breast, despite having some improvement in this area as a result of the firm silicone implant, a normal breast augmentation will only add volume. In order to change the breast, position a breast lift is in order.
A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast shape.
Who is a good candidate for a breast lift?
During your consult, we will perform a thorough examination of different factors, and judge your candidacy during the consult, based on overall health, and expectations.
Patients that will get the most benefit from a breast lift procedure are those who:
- Have sagging breasts, that have lost shape and volume as a result of age, pregnancy, fluctuations in weight, or trauma.
-
Have flat, elongated breast shape.
-
Have nipples and areola that slope downward, often falling below the breast crease.
-
Have stretched out, or enlarged areolas.
-
Have asymmetrical breast positioning, (one breast lower than the other).
A breast lift is meant to restore your breast to its once youthful shape and position. Giving it a “perkier” quality and a higher positioning on the chest. Many choose to combine this procedure with an augmentation to increase size as well.
Just as no two breasts are the same, no two procedures will be done the same. We will lay out a custom-made plan of correction for each individual patient, taking into account needs, desires, and medical specifications.
Procedure
There are 3 types of incisions we can use for the breast lift procedure. The first is around the areola, the most convenient and best for resizing. Also, most of the scarring can be hidden very easily.
The second is around the areola and slightly under it. While the final incision is known as the anchor incision. The first, around the areola is relatively convenient, as most scars will not be visible from stretching skin.
The second incision allows for resizing of the areola, and can also reduce the amount of sagging skin around and to the sides of the breast. The anchor incision is for those who suffer from the most sagging breast tissue, where the nipples are actually pointed downwards, and a lot of skin must be removed.
Aftercare
After the procedure you will have breasts that defy gravity, and are far more upright than they have ever been! Your breasts will also have amazing edges and the youthful contours you’ve always wanted. After the procedure we will bandage you up and may require you wear a compression bra, as needed. Breast lift results are usually seen almost immediately, but will only improve over the weeks as the swelling reduces.
